Woman-owned business elevates the art of gathering with new line of heirloom linens
July 29, 2026 — CHARLESTON, S.C. — Today marks the official launch of The Gilded Grasshopper, a woman-owned lifestyle brand creating mahjong-inspired table linens that elevate any tablescape. With elegant botanical patterns and rich color palettes, each piece is meant to bring a touch of beauty, grace, and warmth to everyday activities and special occasions.
Founded by Charleston native Lauren Davis, The Gilded Grasshopper draws its inspiration from family gatherings, festive celebrations, and friendly competition. With intentional design and understated elegance, Lauren’s pieces are meant to be passed down, transforming get-togethers and game nights into treasured traditions.

“Family heirlooms were my starting point—my grandmother’s linens taught me that textiles tell stories, carry memories, and bring people together,” said Lauren Davis. “When I started hosting mahjong nights, her tablecloths were the first thing I reached for to make every game that much more special. I learned that mahjong tiles are also meant to be passed down and there was an instant, beautiful connection between the two traditions—and The Gilded Grasshopper was born.”
Each full-length tablecloth is fully pleated and thoughtfully designed with a split drop on each side that allows legs to rest comfortably beneath the table. Each piece also features a concealed sleeve on top that comfortably fits a standard-sized mahjong mat.
“The best design is invisible until you need it—it’s about preserving the aesthetic while ensuring performance, so I incorporated the split drop to maintain a clean, refined look even during game play.”

The concealed sleeve is a unique feature that allows a mahjong mat to be tucked inside the tablecloth. “It’s still close at hand but out of sight,” she continued. “I wanted to give people the option to stow their mats because it keeps the space minimal and allows the tablecloth’s intricate patterns and vibrant hues to stay center stage.”
Made of 100% cotton and machine washable, each full-length tablecloth measures 35" L x 35" W x 28.5" H, and is designed to fit a standard-sized square folding table (34” L x 34” W x 29” H). Currently available in ten signature prints—named after Lauren’s beloved sorority sisters and their children—each tablecloth pattern pairs beautifully with existing mahjong mats and will fit on similarly sized tables.
The Gilded Grasshopper is already at work on the 2026 Fall/Winter collection, which features velvet-forward pieces in rich autumnal hues and season-inspired patterns, arriving just in time for the holidays.
